We take speaking seriously. We don't take ourselves seriously.
Every Thursday at 7pm

Here's something we do at Gilbert Toastmasters tha Here's something we do at Gilbert Toastmasters that surprises people: our presidents don't give speeches.

Not because they can't. Because they already talk at every meeting — welcome, introductions, closing. Rob started the tradition in 2019 and almost every president since has followed it.

The idea is simple: if you're already in front of the room every Thursday, give that speech slot to someone who needs the practice more than you do.

That's leadership. Not taking the stage. Making the stage available.

That's how it works. Someone you trust says "come check this out." And you do.

Always good to see you, Chad. And welcome to your friend! 👋

Want your audience to remember your speech? Give t Want your audience to remember your speech? Give them one word to hold onto.

Adrienne did this beautifully in her first speech. She opened with: "How many of you have had a remix in your life?" Then she told us about her pivots — and every time, the word came back. Remix. Five times. Five chapters. One thread.

This is called an anchor word. It gives your speech structure without the audience even noticing. They hear it, they recognize the pattern, and they follow you effortlessly.

The technique is simple: choose a word or a short phrase — something with rhythm, something under 10 words. Use it to open each new section of your story. The repetition does the heavy lifting.

You don't need to be a professional speaker to use this. Your next work presentation, your next toast, your next meeting — try it. Pick one word. Build around it. Watch what happens.
